What Am I?
Hi! I am a self-contained, solar-powered radio that helps people communicate even if power, the internet, or cellular service becomes unavailable. I am powered by software called Meshtastic®. Please don't move, alter, or otherwise prevent me from helping people communicate without contacting my owner.
How Do I Work
I am powered by the Sun, and I store extra battery power to help me get through bad weather and cloudy days. I listen for other people who are trying to send a message to someone else, and then I help the message get where it is going by repeating it for others to hear. This allows people to buy devices for as little as $10 and reach others who are miles away.
What Do I Help With?
I can help people communicate in a variety of circumstances:
- Students in STEM learning about radio communications
- People trying to communicate with friends and family during natural disasters when normal communication methods fail
- People exploring the radio hobby
- Local events in Austin where cellular coverage can be spotty

If you are interested in trying out this technology for yourself, there are many resources to help you get started. Meshtastic® has a list of supported devices that can be bought from various online retailers like Amazon, AliExpress, Etsy, eBay, etc. Once you have a device, you can read the getting started guide to learn how to set it up.
